Six-time Grammy Award-winning salsero Gilberto Santa Rosa will light up the stage at Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College. Widely known as El Caballero de la Salsa, the legendary Puerto Rican singer embodies the soul of an entire musical genre with classics such as “Que Alguien Me Diga,” “Vivir Sin Ella,” and “Concienca.”
Along with their traditional costumes and instruments, a concert with Tlen-Huicani is like taking a journey with Mexico’s Beautiful “harpa jarocha” or folk harp, the centerpiece of their music. Since 1973, their music and international achievements have earned them the honor of ‘Best Folk Group in Mexico’ by the Union of Music and Theater Critics. In 2008, the governor of Veracruz honored them for their 35 years of service to the development of the cultural landscape of Veracruz.
Nearing their fourth decade, Tlen-Huicani remains one of the most faithful interpreters of the traditional folk music of Veracruz, Mexico and Latin America. Their expertise earned them an appearance at the 2007 San Jose Mariachi Festival, performing alongside some of the biggest names in the genre including: Linda Ronstadt and Los Lobos.
“The Nutcracker” is the perennial favorite of generations of children and “children at heart”.
