It Can Happen Here @ Jamaica Performing Arts Center | New York | United States

A reference to the Sinclair Lewis novel It Can’t Happen Here, Sloan’s project presents a series of monologues built from interviews with people who once thought “It can’t happen here” including Hurricane Sandy survivors who lost everything in the storm, DACA recipients struggling with current and changing policy, refugees from military dictatorships, second and third generation children of Holocaust survivors, university students and older women who have been victims of sexual assault. A performance of stories, song and music with a live band honors the depth of these stories, helps find humor in chaos and serves as reminder that just as chaos and hate has taken hold, a practice of compassion, empathy and collaboration can also happen here.

The Capitol Steps: Making America Grin Again! @ Queensborough Performing Arts Center

It’s amazing, it’s huge, it’s fabulous! It has nothing to do with Russia, Putin, or the election that the Democrats “should have won.” Hear from Donald Trump and Melania, James Comey, Vladimir Putin, Elizabeth Warren and even Hillary Clinton, as they make comedy great again! Come see The Capitol Steps perform live, as they dig into the headlines of the day. The 2018 midterm season elections are upon us, and the results will shape the American political landscape for a great many years to come. Join us, as the cast sets out to spoof the people and places that dominate the news, with fresh song parodies and skits which convey a special brand of satirical humor! $40, $35, $30
