SHE: A Celebration of Women
Tuesday,May 09,2017 to Sunday,May 21,2017
HERE, 145 Sixth Avenue, NY, NY 10013
Truth-telling through dance, music, film, monologues, and dialogue between the women, SHE describes sexual violence against women and girls in ways that break new ground in theater. Created by dancer and choreographer Jinah Parker and directed by Phaedra Michelle Scott, SHE is what happens when THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES meets FOR COLORED GIRLS inside of ALVIN AILEY.
SHE is about what happens to women like Sandra Bland.
SHE is about all women and girls; about our mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters.
SHE is about understanding, revealing, inspiring, uplifting, sharing. empowerment, and healing.
This choreoplay is about more than having you sit and watch, we also involve you! The production will also feature resources for women and girls, talk backs after every performance with special guests and a therapist, and there are plans for a national tour and college stops, too. So your circle of folks would be participating in confronting one of the major human rights issue of this century, via this dynamic work of art, in a safe space.
When: Friday, May 5 – Sunday, May 21, all shows 8:30 PM. Sundays matinee 4 PM. (No Mondays).
Where: HERE, 145 Sixth Avenue (enter on Dominick Street, one block south of Spring), NY, NY 10013*
