Queens is one of the most ethnically diverse urban areas in the world. Immigrants from over 120 countries study, work and live in New York’s fastest growing borough. Queens comprises of multi generational immigrant families.

Erasures exhibition will show the everyday lives of immigrant working-class families of Flushing through the lens of poetry installations. This exhibition is a collaboration between Pushcart Prize nominee poet Rosanna Oh and graphic artist and filmmaker Loide Marwanga. Rosanna immigrated from South Korea at the age of 6. Loide is a native of Kenya.

This exhibition views poetry through a different medium: by breaking the words into shapes, colors and textures and returning them back to be read through the artist’s perspective inspired by the poetry of Walt Whitman, US Poet Laureate Robert Hayden, and National Book Award for Poetry winner Louise Gluck.

The Opening Reception will be held at Queens Historical Society on Sunday, December 2nd at 2:30pm.
